Hello,
I live in Suffolk UK and I'm new to this forum and also new to TC's having just bought one a week before Christmas.
Mine is TC1388, it has two flat air filters and although it looks quite nice I do have the original cylinder filter and the castings which hold it. I was told that the original filter does not breath very well which is why it has the pancakes. I heard that the original canister can be modified to hold a modern air filter. Does anyone have a detailed description how to do this and which air filter to use.

There have been a number of Modifications put forward for the TC air filter canister. Some are much more involved than others.

(relatively minor in scope of modification and uses inexpensive over the counter air filters) My preference!!!

There are one or two other approaches I've seen but these two will give you an idea of whats involved!

In the Technical Articles on this site under fuel is a description of how to modify the standard filter canister so that a large paper element from a Porsche 912 will fit inside. I have done just that with good result and found that the system will now filter out debris smaller than bits of gravel or dead flys.
