TB Scuttle Color

I am looking to paint the scuttle. What is the more likely color for this pre-war vehicle? I have seen suggestions it was grey which matches early TC's but have also read much was simply painted black. I have Sherrell's book and others.

I think they just painted them with whatever colour they had at the time. They should be grey but some were black. Probably ran out of grey and used black until new stock came in.
