fixing new hood

I notice the wooden rail across the front of my hood frame is made of oak. Anyone know if this is as original, or is ash (or any other wood) preferable?
Ash was original for all TCs that I am aware of.
If your oak one is in good condition and shaped properly you could reuse it.
