Only thing I considered was a nice coat of Red Rubber Grease as lubricant. Rule of thumb is never use any petroleum based lube on anything rubber. RRG (Castrol is a common name) is typically used to lube rubber assembly in hydraulic components like brake MC's or wheel cylinders, as small amounts (of RRG) are compatible with normal brake fluid. On rubber like in suspension parts, it adds a nice layer of protection and helps keep out moisture.

If your are talking about getting the damper arm (which is cut off flat) through the center of the bushing, something like the bullet shaped item I made up for that works quite well to get it started-- and then you press the arm right on through, without damaging the rubber. Of course use RRG throughout the operation. Looks like I used 1/2" alum round stock and just formed the bullet end with a bench grinder?
