Ammeter Repair

As I was transferring the instruments to my new dashboard, I noticed that the ammeter was rattling. I took it apart and found that something that looks like a paperclip had came off a pair of metal posts where it had previously been soldered on. This loop presumably creates a magnetic field that deflects the needle when a current is flowing.
Is the repair as simple as soldering this back on, or will I need to have it professionally repaired? If the latter, who is recommend in the UK?

Depends on your skill level. A little rosin core solder can do wonders.

If you do find your skills are not quite sufficient I would recommend John Marks of Vintage Restorations. He has a very good reputation for quality work and I am personally happy to use his services again...if he hasn't retired!

I fear he may have done - he couldn't promise a date to repair my TC clock a few years ago.
Someone who gave me excellent service overhauling a set of instruments - including an ammeter - although not off an MG was

John Marks restored all my TC instruments last year including building boost and water temperature gauges. I think he is being more selective these days.

I had all my TC instruments overhauled - and the dials repainted - By Speedograph Richfield. They needed two attempts to get the Speedo and Tacho correct in appearance and the green translucent illumination strips on both were creased. The needle fell off the speedo on the first drive and the tacho started at 2000. After they corrected these problems I haven't calibrated the tacho but it still seems very optimistic. This experience leaves me unable to recommend SR.
