Brake Line/Pipe Size

I am getting ready to make new brake lines for my '49 TC and was wondering, for those of you who have done this what size pipe did you use. I'm assuming 1/4" as that's what Doug Pelton said was the size the factory used and that's what the pipe nuts are sized for. Why did I think it was 3/16" other then I was having a senior moment!

TC brake lines are 1/4 OD or 6.35mm. Fuel pipe is 5/16 OD
3/16 or 4.8mm was on TD/TF

My '37 TA has 1/4" copper pipes. They appear to be all original. The curious thing is the ends are single flared, not the more usual double flare. I restored them and they work fine, no leaks. I wonder, as the TA was the first MG to have hydraulics, maybe double flare had not yet been invented?

I found it quite difficult to get a really good double flare with 1/4" pipe.
Having said that; a bad workman blames his tools.

Thanks for the input and confirmation that the TC brake lines are indeed 1/4", that's what I will be fitting to my car.

I was pleased with the armoured Cunifer brake pipe set for my TC supplied by Classic Car Geek.
There was a slight error with the length of one pipe but they were quick to put it right f.o.c.

With respect, I wouldn't fit a single flare to any brake system. I believe it would be illegal in the U.K. but I can't be sure.
Anyway, better safe than sorry.

Ray, I would doubt if the law would have anything to say about such things, before the accident anyway.

Personally, I would rather not find out the hard way.
