Clutch adjustment of TC

Post by bimmrr » Fri Jan 07, 2022 12:41 pm

Hey y'all,
Just getting back into a 1948 TC ownership after 15 years away from one. Got into Healey's, which I still have one, but have come back to the first love for the TC. Nicely restored car but clutch travel is too far as much as I can tell.

I have ordered one of the TC owners manual reprints but not received just yet so do I recall correctly that the adjustment for the TC clutch travel is through the clutch cable with the adjustment being made with the nuts on the end of it ? Know this is a simple and probably obvious answer but do try to practice my rule of "if it aint broke don't fix it" and don't want to break it.

Thanks,
Mike

The TC clutch linkage has a little chain and a return spring (no cable) and pedal adjustment is by a bolt against the housing. There should be between 3/4" and 1" free movement. When you look at it the adjustment procedure for the pedal becomes self evident.

TB and TC you want 1 inch of free (pedal) travel. 1" is from Blower manual. That is assuming your friction material has not worn beyond adjustment limits.

After the 1" free travel you then want a further three inches of pedal movement.
