Hi,
I have oil pressure problems and I'm thinking of repairing the oil pump. Are there many problems to remove it from the engine?
Can someone help me with the steps to follow? I would greatly appreciate your help

Hi,
you canĀ“t remove the oilpump if the engine ist still in the chassis,
the pump has a long neck that sits in the engine casing, if you pull the pump
out the pump fouls with chassis rail.

Hi,
before you go the way - remove the complete oil pump,
I would check first the pressure relief valve, you can remove that, it is the big bolt
under the pump, there is a brass insert with a steel ball in, check the ball and the seat,
also check the spring, put some washer under the spring to increase the spring pressure
and see what happned.
When you do that, you have to prime the oil pump with oil before you start the engine.
undo the the top oil pipe from the pump and pure oil in the pump and turn the engine
one revelution back to fill the complete pump.
Cheers Carl

Why do you think your problem lies with the oil pump? Typically, low oil pressure is a result of worn bearings, cam, rod, mains, some or all.

I've heard of people removing the pump by undoing the engine mounts and jacking the engine up to gain clearance. I've not tried it myself though.

Hi,
Thanks Carl! I'll start by checking the pressure relief valve as you say. when I remove it... will a lot of oil come out? How can I know if the parts are in poor condition to replace? that way it will be primed perfectly?
Stephen, my mechanic completely restored the engine, but he fell ill and died. I think the oil pump was not checked. Therefore, I suspect it may not be working properly.
With the engine hot, I don't reach more than 30 on the road and 10 idle on my double watch, water temperature and oil pressure.
what is the oil pressure in your cars?

Hi,
yes some oil comes out, not so much,
what you can check when the telief valve is out, has the ball a smoth and even surface
and in the brass part how looks the ball seat - any damages or scratches on the seat.
By a new spring from Moss in Paris,
fit all and try
cheers Carl

Just a thought. Is your oil gauge connection on the head connection banjo or on the lower block connection? It should be on the bottom one to avoid the pressure loss in the head supply pipe.
Good luck.

Only thing I can think of to add is that a few years back people were complaining about repop flexible oil lines that go to and from the oil filter. People reported that as soon as they installed those particular lines, low oil pressure occured. Too small an inside dia. I believe.

You can remove the pump by lifting the front of the engine. I have done it.
The flexible lines that were sold on Ebay are junk and will cause a drop in oil pressure. The hole in the fitting is only 1/8". If you want to use the flexible lines get them from "From the Frame Up". They are quality and work. If you want the junk ones sold on ebay let me know and I will send you a set for postage only as I will never use them after check the size of the holes in the fittings.

thanks for your answers! a lot of help for me.
I have started putting new oil (Valvoline VR1 Racing 20W50) and removing the oil filter. I am waiting for the ball and spring of the pressure relief valve to arrive. I found an adapted cartridge inside the filter. they have cut the metal part above and below so that its circumference is smaller and can be inserted into the filter. I can see engraved a reference number Moss 435-395. Could the problem be here?
The flexible line from engine to gauge I can see it's new but I don't know if it's the right one

greetings again,
I have checked the pressure relief valve and replaced ball and spring. I have placed adjustable oil pressure valve. Low pressure problem persists.
I thought to replace oil lines (pump to filter and filter engine) then I discovered one of the oil lines had been manufactured. Look at the photos. Much thinner and smaller than the original.
Now I have installed flexible oil lines with the same original oil line capacity.
I got more oil pressure. now i have to test drive the car on the road
