Best way to check/top up the diff?

Am I correct in thinking that the simplest way to check/top-up the axle oil on a TC is to remove the floor of the tonneau area and do it from above?

hi Jonny - yes, that is just about the only way! The so-called "parcel shelf" is easily removed to gain access - I have even removed and replaced a diff. that way! Take out the level plug on the o/s and fill until oil just begins to dribble out. Even better, drain the diff, refill with new EP140 and fit one of my improved drain plugs (larger head, 1/4"BSF spanner size, and with a magnet to catch the gear-grinding metal dust).

I did it underneath for years with a pump bottle, until one day when I removed the panel and found out how much easier it was.

Unsnap and fold down the sidescreen storage cover, then remove the two fasteners -- and out comes the "parcel shelf."

Takes very nearly a whole US quart if well drained, but should leave an ounce or two in the bottle for a top up later if needed.

Remember to check the vent in the fill plug. It takes a 7/16 WW, and the level plug is 3/8 WW.

Probably easier to change the rear brake flex line from above, too.
