Tacking Strip

Post by LFD059 » Wed Mar 23, 2016 12:22 pm

Seeking info on securing the tacking strip (3 pieces) to the rear top rail of my 47 TC. Catalogs and "TC Forever" show diagram/pictures with holes in the tacking strip, however no mention of screws or nails used to affix to the Top Rail. ? Also can't seem to see or find any reference to hardware used in the Moss Catalog for such.

LFD, any chance of giving a Moss catalogue page and reference number. I know I should know what you mean but I want to be sure.

There are pictures on p.114 and 115 of MG T Series Restoration Guide by Malcolm Green. He states "The rear hood rail is screwed to the rear of the body, after folding the ends round and trapping them under the rail". The ends he is talking about are the ends of the Rexine/PVC covering. I did all of my own upholstery and found this section almost impossible to do in the manner he describes with the material thickness I used. However, to answer your question, it is screws. I countersunk them so they did not show through the covering.

My Malcolm Green book is at the bodyshop. But if you mean the strip that holds the rear of the hood to the body mine had screws with the ring for the snappers on them. I assume the snappers are for the tonneau.

Thanks for the info, very helpful. I ordered Malcolm Green's Restoration Guide after your and my son's suggestion, apparently a bit late, however believe it will provide helpful guidance for other questions I'll likely have. FYI- Moss catalog showing the Top Rail is on page 28 of the Wholesale Edition Book. Thanks again and happy motoring!
