Hello all,
Got my taper fit halfshafts in today, going to machine my hubs out and ream them to #4 morse with a hand reamer that was adjusted so it can be chucked in a lathe and run really slow. There's a good torque-ey lathe at work so it should work just fine, says the machinist that is helping me out.
I just need to know, on the taper fit halfshafts to what depth should the taper be reamed? Does anyone know the length tolerance on the halfshaft from the rear of the hub (or that internal flat face) to the end that goes in the diff, for example?
Thanks

Email Bob Grunau - he'll know the tolerances since he sells the tapered halfshafts.
