How to seperate trans from block on a TA

Post by pleask » Wed Sep 07, 2016 6:15 pm

A friend of mine is working on his TA, he has separated the trans from the block by only an inch or so, something is stopping it from coming fully apart. He thinks it is the clutch arm but but not sure enough to pound on it.

Any suggestions/help I can pass along to him?
Anyone know of some good TA web pages for him down the road other than joining this group?

Thanks, Pat

Pat,
your friend must first remove the clutch operating arm by drifting out the locking pin them prising the arm off the shaft. He can then turn the shaft fully clockwise so that the clutch fork can ride over the top of the release bearing. On the TA the clutch fork is in front of the thrust bearing and pulls the bearing towards the driver! With the clutch operating arm in place the fork will not clear the thrust bearing.
Before he assemblies the engine back onto the transmission it is worthwhile marking the end of the shaft with a scribed line so that you can see when it is horizontal and will clear the thrust bearing!
Berst wishes, TABrian
