Fitting wing piping to scuttle or dashboard

Post by ian fletcher » Mon Jan 16, 2017 2:08 am

Hi, almost completed interior trimming of TC1017 but puzzling if it's better to attach piping to dashboard or to scuttle? Any thoughts or experience. Also best way to end wing piping where the end is on show such as the top of the rear quarter where it butts up against the hood trim rail?
Thanks
Ian

A I recall I fixed the piping to the top of the dash, but it has been awhile. The other piping just butts up against the hood trim and just ends, they did nothing fancy.

Re the piping above the dash, and if we are talking about the upholstered piping, not the chromed strip - and if I am remembering correctly - I don't think there is a decision to be made - it really has to be the scuttle. This is because the piping continues on down the inside of the body to the top of the door strikers. If it were attached to the dash it appears you could not remove the dash without removing the piping from the body.

For the end at the rear, as Stephen says it just butts up with no special finish. I made all my own upholstery and trim and I found the book by Malcolm Green, T Series Restoration Guide, to be very useful on trim matters.

Thanks for info. Yes Richard thinking about it fitting to the scuttle makes better sense. Yes I've got Malcolm Greens book, it's the only one that really mentions the interior trim!
Cheers
