TC seat base dimensions

I've been inspecting my MG TC seat bases and, consistent with my theory that a previous owner stored the tub sitting on wet ground, they are rotten and will need to be rebuilt. The following pictures are show the dimensions of one of the bases should these be of use to anyone else. You will see that one corner was too rotten to take measurements, so if anyone has the dimensions for that part, please let me know. Also, could someone tell me whether this is from the left seat right seat (drivers side in UK).

Apologies to our American readers for the metric units :)

Thanks Steve

Public holiday so I can push on with the seats.

Using Steve's measurements, it seems a pretty good fit.

Drew it out on CAD to get the dimensions corner to corner.

Will do that back cut away just to stay parallel to the bottom of the wheel arch. I am sure it is only there to provide clearance when you move your seat as far back as possible.

Ah, the cut out makes sense now. It also answers my question about which side of the car the seat goes in as the cut out has to match the wheel arch. Presumably the hinged bit joins the base of the seat to the seat back so that they adjust in unison.

Should I make the cut out any bigger?

If I use my dimension off a picture app I get the hinge thingy to be 140 mm on the side going into the backrest of the seat and 137 mm the side attaching to the seat base....that is from the hinge pin.

Seems the joining taper piece is set in from the edge of the base.

Yours the same?

Sides made up.

Quite emotional event, cut up my headboard I had when I was 12 years old. You can see I am a hoarder.

Hi Herman,

The dimensions of the hinge are: 1 1/2" wide; 5 5/8" long for the bit screwed to the base and 6" for the other bit. Yes, the taper piece is set in from the side of the base by about 8mm. Mine had a wool like padding material to fill the space.

By the way, what were the final dimensions of the template that you ended up with that is shown in the picture 5 posts up from this one? It will be easier for me to use those dimensions than repeat your CAD efforts to get the corner dimensions from my measurements.

378 mm at the front and 436.8mm at the back.

What thickness material is used for the hinge. About 3mm 1/8"

you guessed correctly, the material for the hinge is 3mm or 1/8".

Easy to make. 10mm rod with 4mm hole leaves me with 3 mm wall to weld to flat bar.
