Mystery smooth side oil sump

Post by craig.cootsona » Thu Sep 06, 2018 4:42 am

Hello all,

I'm wondering if anyone has information on this mystery oil sump. It came from a pre-timing chain tensioner block that is not marked XPAG, so perhaps it's and XPJM, XPJW. As you can see, the baffle is only a short rectangle where most run the length of the sump with a hole for the oil pickup. Also, it only has two tapped bosses for the baffle and two tabs on the opposite end that might be for a longer baffle. Those familiar with TD sumps will notice the lack of additional bosses in the casting that make this one look very plain.

Can anyone tell me what this might be? Are longer baffles available or do I need to make one?

Best regards,

My first thought is Wolsely but I'm not really sure. Interesting. Have you looked in the Cairns book?

Morris 10 sump, same as early TD but no clutch pegs.
