Assuming my 1948 TC has H2 carburetors is there a reason why they have no damper springs other than a previous owner removed them?

Early carburetors used weighted brass pistons to control the return rate. It was an accurate but costly way of doing it. Later pistons were made of cheaper aluminum and therefore required springs to force the pistons down.
