In reviewing pictures taken on arrival of my recently acquired TC in store since 1956!!! and now again likewise until my current project is completed I noticed these two circular holes. Why on earth would they have been made. I can see no logical explanation.

I believe they are air vents to allow air to bleed out from inside the cushion, which will compress when you sit in/on it. Seems to me that our cars leak everything from every possible opening, so it seems a bit much!

The TC seat cushions have air vents in the plywood just under the foam cushion. My TC does not have the through holes in the back rest like this however. When I rebuilt the cushions to install new foam the air vents were covered with burlap. It could have been factory, Don't know, the condition of the foam deterioration says it was probably '48 vintage. When I rebuilt them, I used upholstery cushion cloth to cover the holes. I think it was there just to keep dust out anyway.

As far as I know that's original. As Tom correctly notes, it's just for ventilation when you move around on the seat. And I agree, probably overkill.

Maybe not overkill when you consider the seats routinely got wet/damp back in the good old days. Holes to help dry out.

Obviously at the moment no one has confirmed they too have these holes so as suggested they are possibly for venting and an "after market" addition by a previous owner.

TC's Forever page 219 shows the holes as original. I suspect you don't see them anymore because most owners have found them overkill, or perhaps trimmers don't know that they were there originally.

Thank you Steve. Whilst I have TCs Forever More still "optimistically" searching for a sensibly priced TC`s Forever. Unfortunately most seem in the hands now of "dealers"

If we could get enough people to pre-order, I wonder if Mike would print another run of them. If for no other reason then perhaps just to run the price gougers out of business!
