Gearshift snug placement

Post by Warmuthb » Fri Jan 31, 2014 6:23 am

Where is the little rubber donut/ snug supposed to be placed? I would think it should be under the chrome plated top cover, between the top cover and the top spring cover. Maybe not. The chrome top cover has an oil hole and if the rubber snug would be below it, it would seem to get any oil added through the hole and soon deteriorate. Maybe not?

Thanks,
Brian

I thought the same as you but was informed by Doug Pelton that it sits on top of the chrome cover.
Doesn't look great but but seems to work , much like the rest of a TC.

It sits on top of the chrome cover but underneath the rubber gearbox cover. Most repro gearbox covers are shaped differently than original in this location and the rubber donut frequently pops out. Judicious fitting, trimming of the gearbox cover, and testing can result in a good fit so the donut acts properly as a seal.

Interesting....why then chrome plate the top cover only to cover with rubber. Not questioning the answers provided...just say'in!
