TC windscreen re-assembly TC1365

Post by IAIN WRIGHT » Thu Feb 13, 2014 2:05 am

I wonder if anyone can offer advice as to the best way to re-assemble a TC windscreen. I have four new corner brackets and a seal (all from Moss). Should I for instance, fit the seal in four separate pieces since fitting in one complete length looks to be rather diffficult ? Any tips will be most welcome ! iain

I assemble the top rail and the side rails first. I the lay the wiper wire in place. Next I lay out the seal and miter cut the corners leaving it a solid piece all the way around. Just "v" cutting. at the the outside of the corners. I make a butt joint at the center of the bottom rail. After I have the seal in position , I lubricate the edges of the glass with KY jelly (yes there is another use :-) ) and slide the glass into position and the attach the bottom rail. If you bought a new screw set from Moss I'd suggest you install those into the brackets and file away the excess length. Unless something has changed with the screws they supply, they are a tad to long and may push against the glass causing it to break. Assemble the frame without the glass and seal first to make sure you don't have any fit issues that need addressed before installing the glass and seal. And of course make sure the Auster plate will be towards the cockpit when you put the bottom rail an. I've seen a lot that are facing the radiator.

Many thanks to Tim and LaVerne for their advice - really appreciated.
Ropes, tourniques and KY jelly are all involved and so it may well be more fun than I thought !!
