Does anyone have a good source for these brake drums here in the States? And, is there any difference in whether you get the front or rear drums from the 240 Z's, i.e., are both front and rear drums finned? Thanks in advance, Gene

Hi Gene, I'm not a Datsun expert, contrary to what some on this list may think just because I steer my TC with the help of a Datsun tiller, but I am fairly certain that you won't find drums on the front of a 240Z.

Cheers, Peter

Well, duh!!! Must have been a *blonde* day for me yesterday. I'd have known that if I'd thought about it for ten seconds.

I also have installed the Datsun steering mod on the 49 TC I've been restoring over the past few years. I originally planned to try to bring it back to life as original as possible but, after finally getting it together enough to at least try it on the road, quickly decided I wanted to enjoy it. It was too much fun to drive to have it sitting around in the garage, being taken out only for shows. And, to my way of thinking, to properly enjoy driving it I had to do something about the steering! That Datsun mod (to a non-TC owner) is undetectable and makes the car so much safer to drive that it's well worth the possible jeers of the purists.

Gene - Mike Goodman is a source for the 240Z drums, properly re-holed and ready to install.

Mike Goodman's Sport Car Service, Ltd.
16940 Sherman Way
Van Nuys, CA 91406
Phone: (818) 996-7388
Fax: (818) 996-5909

It is my understanding that only the front drums from the 240 are finned and adaptable for TC use. I installed them last year, and they work so well that I have been encouraging all touring mates to do the same, especially Doug Wimer, who came within a few centimeters of rear-ending me on our Grand Rallye Around Britain. Safety Fast (and Stopping Fast, too)
