carburetor assembly
I am reassembling a rebuilt carb. Around the banjo bolt I am getting leaks at the washers. Am I correct in assuming that (from outside in) the banjo bolt goes through a washer and seats against the side of the banjo that has an recess on it rim; then through another washer , and the whole assembly is tightened flush. The washers are very stiff; should they be soft? What else could explain the leaks? The little fuel screen filters don't seem to be interfering. Dick Warren in Vt

Dick-
Should be fiber washers. Sort of a paper type gasket material. If you are re-using old ones, they may have gotten hard and will not work. I like to use just enough of a non-hardening fuel proof gasket dressing like Permatex or Hylomar so that the entire fiber washer is coated with the stuff, but no excess at all. Prefer "Permatex (85420) Fuel resistant gasket dressing and sealant." The overflow tube banjo uses an aluminum washer up top, and a fiber washer against the float chamber lid.
