TC Spares On Hand

Post by mgraziano1975 » Fri May 15, 2015 1:18 pm

Hi Everyone. New TC owner here.

Just a quick question on "spares on hand". What are your recommendations for spares that I should keep on hand?

My thoughts are:
Points and Capacitors
Generator
A spare bulb or two
Oil filter
Air cleaner mesh?
Rotor (1 or 2: does the quality stink as much as the later Midget rotors?)
Caps (same as above)
Plugs (1 set)
Oil (to feed the MG COCS (constant oil change system)

Anything else obvious I'm missing? Any recommendations on places to purchase or is Moss as good as the next guy?

Thanks,
Mike

From memory, here are the spares I carry with me on the road.

Complete distributor, gapped and ready to go
4 Spark plugs
short length of Fuel hose with hose clamps
2 quarts engine Oil
Brake fluid
Various nuts and bolts
Pair of generator brushes
One carburetor float
Exhaust gasket
One headlamp bulb

Other spares that are nice to have in the garage but not completely necessary are:
Generator
Starter with switch
Water pump
Fan belt
Headlamp switch

Get the red distributor rotor and you shouldn't have any problems. I haven't had any issues lately with caps, etc like I have in the MGB in the past. Moss is generally good, and most of the other sellers carry at least some of their parts. There is other game in town including Abingdon Spares who have a lot of good original parts and From The Frame Up who is generally better than most for originality, especially with hardware.
