Hydraulic Press
Hydraulic Press
Would a 6 ton hydraulic press suit any work I needed to perform on my car restoration?

Re: Hydraulic Press
if you intend to service your original Girling shock absorbers, front and back then yes for sure. They are blinking difficult to insert the new rubbers, along with the arm links. This is the only thing I reckon you'll need it for though!

Re: Hydraulic Press
Other than pressing new hubs on axles I can't think of what you would need more power for. A press is useful for some things though. Cam bearing, water pump, shocks, steering bushings, etc.
Re: Hydraulic Press
I have found that the accuracy of some cheaper presses leaves a lot to be desired. In my experience, being able to press straight is more important than the quoted tonnage.
Re: Hydraulic Press
If you only need to use it a couple of times, I recommend that you just find a friendly local garage and ask if you can use theirs for half an hour. I borrowed some one off needed tools from my local tyre fitter in exchange for biscuits.

Re: Hydraulic Press
i got a cheap one in the bay for 108 euros , 12 ton wiht pressure gauge
if you start with work on a car, you will find more than you think
so buy one
if you do the work in the evening after your job you can t go to the garage of a friend
but if you want to prepare the shock absorber you need a really good puller to do the job
done it some weeks ago on a YA
here some pictures,
you need some new seals if they look like my seals
have painted them today ;-)
will rebuild them next days
