Brooklands screens
Brooklands screens
I have TC # 7054 and have recently received a pair of Brookland screens. I have the idea I can install the mounting brackets for these screens on the lower windshield frame as opposed to securing the screen mounting brackets to the cowl. By folding the windshield to the horizontal position I can easily position the Brookland screens into position. Marking the lower rail of the windshield I can then drill and tap the lower rail being careful not to come in contact with the glass inside the channel. Has anyone tried this technique? If there is no room to drill and tap I would use U-channel the interior width of the lower windshield rail, drill and tap the U-channel wall that will face the inside, then screw through the Brookland screen bracket and into the tapped U-channel. Once the screw has gone through the u-channel it will come into contact with the lower windshield rail and apply holding pressure preventing the mounting brackets from moving. Am I way off base? Any suggestions?

Re: Brooklands screens
I've seen this done by running a rod across, and mounting the screens to it in order to avoid drilling into the chrome frame. I believe the rod was mounted on each side to the uprights. The big issue is if you run a single rod all the way across, it tends to bounce and vibrate. It really needs a support in the center.
Re: Brooklands screens
I have noticed that there are a few cars which have Brooklands screens fitted but don't have the windscreen folded down. I imagine once fitted they are not easily removed. I would think it is not ideal to look through two screens at the same time so a method of quick release would seem the way to go if that is possible. I have held off buying them for that reason.
Re: Brooklands screens
No problem looking through two screens l often have the main wind screen up and look through both.

Re: Brooklands screens
The screens are easily mounted to the cowl without problem and look proper. Why would you do it any other way??
Re: Brooklands screens
I see you also have a Brooklands steering wheel. The two things compliment each other nicely.

Thanks, I love those screens, the only time the windshield is up is when to top is up!
Re: Brooklands screens
I drove my TC since 1969 with the brooklands mounted to the cowl. I have no problem looking trough 2 pieces of glass when the windscreen is up (seldom happens). The only time that happens is when my better half joins me for a ride on colder days.
Re: Brooklands screens
I have seen Brooklands screens being offered by various suppliers. Are they all the same or are some of a better quality than others; and which are considered the best ones to buy?

Re: Brooklands screens
Mine say AERO SCREEN on them and I bought them used on eBay. Alloy frame and chromed fittings they are very adjustable and when mounted properly the windscreen can be raised without interference. I only raise the screen when the top goes up and don't mind looking through two pieces of glass. The passenger side screen needs to be tilted inward a bit to clear the wiper motor.
Re: Brooklands screens
I originally put forth the question concerning Brookland screens located on the windscreen frame, I have since decided to mount them on the cowl itself has anyone a guide as to placement? Locating each mounting bracket? Is there any measurement that is standard? If so where to measure from, what reference points?
Re: Brooklands screens
Sorry for highjacking your thread, hanko. I don't think there is any precise location. Just make sure you leave room for the windscreen wiper motor. I would be tempted to mount the wiper under the scuttle like the TF... if that is possible,
