Scuttle rubber gasket question

Post by Ray White » Sat Jun 12, 2021 11:41 am

I have a new rubber gasket that goes in between the scuttle and the frame. I am puzzled why there are an uneven number of holes in the top scuttle gasket. Surely bulkhead retaining bolts should pass through ALL the available bulkhead holes when securing it to the timber frame?

Any previous experience of this anomaly?

You have perhaps found 2 unused holes on the left top of the scuttle? These should mirror the steering column support bracket holes on the other side. Although all available evidence suggests that MG never built LHD TC's it's possible that potential fitment was implemented at the design stage? Whatever the reason, the two 'spare' holes were not originally used for scuttle attachment - although you will see many restored cars with the full complement used!

Thank you antijam that makes perfect sense. As they say; there's no such thing as a stupid question. If I hadn't asked, I would probably never have known.

Cheers, Ray.
