Oil pressure
Oil pressure
A few miles ago (1200) along with the crank seal upgrade, I had a spin off oil filter kit fitted by a local MG T series shop. Not long after the gauge packed up (stuck at 50) and I recently replaced it with another unit (not MGTF specific). It shows at just over 70 psi. How do I go about diagnosing the problem-assuming there is one. (engine rebuilt in previous ownership) Obviously the old gauge needs repair (advice on who welcomed) but is it possible the replacement temporary (yes you know where that can lead) is faulty or is the oil pump, having had the spin off fitted, the possible culprit. Advice/suggestions more than welcome,

I've had good work from Nisonger Instruments in Mamaroneck New York.
But possibly there is something wrong with the spin-on filter kit, such as relief valves adjusted wrong or going the wrong way? The filters usually have an internal bypass valve which opens if the filter is clogged.

Re: Oil pressure
You can buy, or sometimes rent, an external gauge that screws onto the fitting where the hose for the gauge would normally go. If both gauges read the same, then the one in the car is likely ok. If not, then it's more likely the external gauge is correct but still worth checking with a third. If you don't have access to an external gauge, you can rig up something to test yours with compressed air, or even a bicycle pump. If using compressed air, be sure there is a regulator, or drain the tank down to a safe level.
