new wiring - length of the wires
now the renewing of the wiring from my TA starts (perhaps)
now begins the renewal of the wiring from my TA
it was done in the 80's, it works, but it looks terrible
no matching colors
does anyone has the length of the wires to order?
my YA got a new wiring from me so i can add some new features like a warning light
i need the warning lights here in germany
i want to change the function of the fog light switch
it should be my new turn signal switch
i designed it for a modern led switch, so i also have a pilot light in this switch, but it looks almost original, printed in black resin
the igintion light will be the igintion light and the indicator light for high beam, like my indicator light from my YA, there are indicator light for directional light and high beam light
so a little different function than the original
so better make your own wiring harness and wrap it with cloth tape
the colours changed from TA to TC, what colours i should take
the TC one
will make it in cloth wraped wires
my TA is not original, has XPAG engine and a body of TCto expensive to make all original
haven t seen it when i bought the car
but the engine is better then original
has a laystall head
a temperature sensor
has no CJR3 Regualtor only a self printed original like case with a regualtor from a later car
i bought a generator with regulator so i think i change to it
also i think to change the inside of my printed case to put some relays with fuse in it
i will change to negative earth
i will change to LED lights in the back
anyone who has done it ?

Re: new wiring - length of the wires
Franz, just buy a new one via the MG Octagon Car Club who can get the best price with Autosparks in Notts, UK for the best solution and complete

Re: new wiring - length of the wires
Hello Franz. I am making substantial changes to my electrical system and I have bought a new "Autosparks" wiring loom through the Octagon Club. The benefit is that the colours are in agreement with the wiring diagram (mostly). I am interested that you are combining your ignition warning light with high beam and using the fog lamp switch for turn indicators. Very imaginative.
Have you considered extra fuses? I am unhappy with just two 35 amp fuses for the whole car. If there was a short in the wiring, it could well cause a fire long before either 35 amp fuse had blown...if they ever do!
I have now a total of 10 fuses; 8 lower rated new ones and keeping the two originals as back up.
I would also suggest fitting relays to protect your ancient switches. I have 8 relays (discreetly located). I have chosen to alter my dashboard layout and now have seven dials and all my switches / knobs in ivory to match my new Brooklands steering wheel.

Re: new wiring - length of the wires
Hello
have checked
about 500 euro with tax and shipping for all parts
with this wiring harness i have to make some changes
so i want to make my own for 100
and good
i like to do it myself ;-)
for the hazard lights and the turn signal I will use normal switches with LED like I did on my YA but I will take the original MG design of the original switches in place
i hate those turn light switches you can buy
i will print my own switch in the design of the original switch in this position
I will print my own warning light switch in the design of the original switch in this position with clear resin and paint it black, only the warning sign will be clear and glow red when on, works great on the YA
I will use safety relays and fuses for lights, horn and brake lights and mount them in a hidden but easily accessible location
so too many changes for a standard wiring harness
the holders for the bulbs behind the dash I made myself from copper sheet , was easy and only cost a few cents , otherwise a fortune.
and it's not that much work to wrap the wires
the brake light switch is a hydraulic switch that was rebuilt in the 80's and is not in the position of the original switch, so I have to open up the harness here too
it took me 2 hours to wrap the wiring harness of the YA,:-)
but a lot of time to search what colours i need what dimension and length
but fun for a winter evening ;-)

Re: new wiring - length of the wires
Hi Franz, One point I`d mention is that the Autosparks loom I purchased for my TC does not have the galvanized protective coil that was on the original. I have tried to fit what I was able to obtain ( 25mm I.D.) and found it impossible to fit. So if it exists on the TA I suggest you make sure it is put on as soon as possible. I would also mention that electronic relays are necessary if you are using LED bulbs otherwise the signals do not function at the correct rate. Cheers Jan
Re: new wiring - length of the wires
If I might add... my loom did have all the protective coil pieces so it might be worth checking that. If you do your own wrapping it looks much better if you use fabric tape rather than plastic. Also, if you fit relays get the ones with built in diode. Stray voltage spikes from standard relays can play havoc with any sensitive electronics you may have. For the same reason I fitted a transil (very cheap) to my fuel pump - it also protects the points from burning.

Re: new wiring - length of the wires
what do you mean ?
TC does not have the galvanized protective coil
my loom is selfmad in the 80s, no colour or wire is correct
the wire from the batterie in the back has a Batterie Isolator Disconnect Power Cut Off Kill Switch. under the coil, there i can turn off the switch from inside the car. this i will use in future too. from this switch one wire to the starter switch, the same as a Td pull starter switch then to the starter
the other wire goes to the regulator coil and so on
nothing is correct. but it works for the moment (40 years)
no one there with an old loom to take the measurement,
i will order some more wires ;-)
and make a list when i have done it
perhaps someome else can use it
in the moment i think about what to do
in my printed cjr3 case i can put some ( 5 ) micro 12V relais
Mikrorelais Schließer 4-polig 12V/25A
i have one in my bike BMW 650cs
headlight, beam light. horn, direction light, all the other ?? !!
all with fuse
https://www.amazon.de/edi-tronic-Sicher ... B08DRPDDR2
perhaps left and right light with an one fuse ??
this will fit all in the regulator box, easy to work if something doesn t work
if i can t use the new generator i have no place in the cjr3 case so i have to find one other place

Re: new wiring - length of the wires
Here are some measurements for you, Franz....
http://www.tcmotoringguild.org/techinfo/TClinic-25.pdf
Unfortunately they are in British Imperial sizes so you may wish to convert to metric.
Also...yes there are several lengths of flexible conduit protecting the TC wiring harness in two different sizes. See Sherrell's 'TCs forever!' page 249.

Re: new wiring - length of the wires
thx
have taken a look there
the only thing it is missing is the colors, thickness...
made it a little bit difficult for german speaking man ;-)
have written something in my blog
here i will post information of my order

Re: new wiring - length of the wires
16 AWG Stranded Cable
you have information to a modern standard?
12
14
i would chose the thickness from the technical information of the wire and look how much i need
4 lamps with 4Watt Power = U*I

Re: new wiring - length of the wires
Cotton cloth friction tape essential for DIY car wiring.
If you are not concerned about insulation color, consider paying a bit more for high quality "marine wire." This is pre-tinned copper wire that comes in all the standard gauge sizes (10, 12, 14, 16, 18 etc). Each strand of copper is tinned along its entire length. Pre-tinned wire makes soldered connections vastly easier to do!! I would never consider doing car wiring with anything else. Shop around, as prices vary wildly. https://www.zoro.com/ancor-tan-12-awg-t ... 003072650/

made a excel sheet with the colors of the wires,
one with TS lucas scheme
one with the original scheme
not really ready in the moment, but you can see what i am doing ;-)

Re: new wiring - length of the wires
Franz. There is a British Standard (similar to DIN) list of vehicle wiring colours and usages which you can find on the internet. This can help with the colouring needed for any additional wiring which you might wish to incorporate such as for indicators. If you use LEDs then, as Jan pointed out, you need modern indicator relay units. When doing this on my YB I found that with positive earth on my car three pin units were not suitable as there is an internal connection in them which makes them only suitable for negative earth. Two pin units, however, work fine if connected in reverse. I also found I needed two units, one for each side, with the wiring configuration I wanted to use. This is determined by which side of the switch you wish to put the relay/s.

Re: new wiring - length of the wires
Hello
thank you
I have read it
I had made my schematic with Proficad
so i can change everything very fast
also two colored wires are possible
made an excel sheet with all the wires i need
about 70 pounds for the wires
will post it tomorrow
thank you
