Dash wiring loom
Dash wiring loom
Bought my dash wiring loom through the Octagon club which I believe is acquired from Auto Sparks but am unable to reconcile it with either the original or any wiring diagram. Before I follow this up with the club shop have I missed something? The main loom at the moment appears comparable.

Re: Dash wiring loom
the top photo shows the wiring cable for the rear lights, while the lower one is for the rear of the dash

Re: Dash wiring loom
Thanks Chris. However I still don`t really recognise the cabling against the various wiring diagrams I`ve viewed. To clarify one point. I already have a loom from the dash vicinity serving the rear and front lights etc. The small loom does have some cabling that relates to a early TC ( I had ordered late TC with indicators) but misses for example yellow/black and red/blue and blue/white. It does have the blue and blacks for the panel lights which would have been red/white and black in a late loom. Have taken the matter up with the Octagon who seem to think I`ve been sent part wrong loom but are checking it out for me.
Re: Dash wiring loom
It took me a while to work mine out, but some time at the kitchen table with a multi meter helped. There are several short lengths of wire of the same colour that connect together in series via the panel lights, the effect being that when you look at the loom on the table you see lots of ends of the same colour emerging at various points. Number the lights then trace and label the pairs of wire ends by testing for continuity with the meter and it will start to make sense.
Also, Autosparks make several different versions with different colours, so you may have the wrong one (e.g. Two map lights or map light and 30mph light). I did at first, which was confusing, but I only live 5 miles from them, so got it sorted.
Finally, there is one wire that tends not to be included as it just goes from the ammeter to something else on the panel.

Re: Dash wiring loom
Thanks Steve. In the time I`ve spent "on the kitchen table" trying to fathom this out I could have made my own loom. The panel lights are readily understood. It`s the absence of a number of wires as indicated in my earlier submission and the addition of what appears to be an additional loom that that seems surplus to requirements appears to indicate human error somewhere. Certainly never had this problem when I did my TF a couple of years ago. Still allows me to get on with making and fitting the interior upholstery. Hopefully Octagon and AutoSparks between them can tell me where I`m going wrong. Perhaps it`s just my age!!
Re: Dash wiring loom
Did the dash loom come in a separate sealed packet. If so, did it have a four digit serial number on it - you can search this on the Autosparks website.
As Chris says, the other loom is for the rear lights and fits at the rear chassis. I have one as well, but I have not worked out how it fits yet.

Re: Dash wiring loom
Probably no consolation ... but when I received my Autosparks TC loom (from Octagon club spares) I noticed that the smaller 'Dash' section was missing the blue wire that carries current from the headlamp switch across to the dip/main beam switch. I was also disappointed that none of the wires in the loom had either connectors fitted or identification colouring.
Fortunately, we have a late model coloured wiring diagram published in John James' TT2 on line. I have printed some off and found them to be invaluable..

Re: Dash wiring loom
Thanks Steve and Ray. Helpful information about what potentially is the rear chassis loom. I would add that none of the 3 packages had any labels/numbers on which obviously may have helped me. Down to quality control I suppose.
Re: Dash wiring loom
Ray - mine didn't have the blue wire either. I think that it's standard practice to have that one outside of the loom. In fact there were a few other wires that I needed in various places as I plan to install extra connector blocks between the dash and the main loom to make for easy removal. As mentioned, Autosparks is only just down the road from us (Sandiacre) and they sell all of the correct wires in the correct colours in any lengths off the roll, so easy enough.
Re: Dash wiring loom
Hi Steve. I remember seeing your connectors and have just been doing the same with my wiring.!
