TC petrol tank end plates

Post by Ray White » Tue May 17, 2022 7:53 am

I need to get the edges re chromed. Do the panels need to be plated all over their facing surfaces ...or is it possible to just have the edges chromed? Would this create a hard edge?

I would appreciate some advice before committing to the expense.

Thanks,

Ray.

I think they will need to chrome the whole thing, but only polish the edges. I had an antique bicycle frame partially chromed once and the edges of the chrome had a significant lip.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that parts not needing nickel/chrome plating can be first coated with a lacquer-nail varnish for example. However in order to do a proper job the item needs to go back to bare metal, made perfectly smooth and then triple plated. A perfect job is not cheap. I used a company in Weston-super- Mare REGRETABLY!!!!! Their location was suitable for both personal delivery and collection. Couldn`t afford for parts to get lost during transit.

I guess I will have to bite the bullet and have them done properly. Somehow I forgot about these things when I had everything else plated. I have only ever used Derby plating. They are amongst the best ...but the cost is horrendous.
