In search of original owner

Post by hanko » Mon Jun 27, 2022 12:36 pm

When I bought my TC #7057 I looked under the passenger seat and discovered two license plates, old and worn FDW 127. I assumed they were the originals that came with the car when new. I was told a young RAF pilot had purchased the car new after WW11. He eventually, apparently, moved to the Philidelphia area with the car in the mid 1970's and died in around 2012. The family stored the car and in 2015 sold it to a dealer in Providence, RI. I purchased the car from this dealer. I need help finding out if the plates are authentic to the car and if there is a way to identify the original owner? I am 71 years old and not that computer savvy so if anyone can put me on the right trail I would appreciate it.

UK plates can tell you the local area where the car was first registered. The letters DW indicate it was first registered in Newport Wales, which is near Cardiff. The letter F and the numerals 127 are just assigned sequentially by the local licensing authority.
In some but not all localities the records still exist.
There are services that will search these, but they charge.

My TC came from Lancashire. I was able to contact the records office there and they sent a scan of the original log book page with my car's entry on it. The cost was about $20 USD.

It would seem chassis number 7057 does not appear in the Register of surviving cars.

Perhaps you might like to add it to the list.?

I believe the NEMGTR has a record of this car and its owner and the MGCC T Register has a copy of this. Try contacting Kathy Ahrendt on the NEMGTR website - https://www.nemgtr.org/contact.html.
