Low fuel lamp
Low fuel lamp
Hi all,
TC2190 still has what looks like its original low fuel lamp fitted, but it no longer reads ‘fuel’ as I believe it should and is just a green lamp. Can anybody enlighten me as to how the original lettering was formed please? I’d like to try to repair it if possible.

Re: Low fuel lamp
The lamp only shows FUEL when illuminated, when not lit it appears uniform green. Have you checked it lit?
If it doesn't show FUEL when lit, short of buying a new unit I can't think how you'd repair it.

Thanks Antijam. It’s a solid green colour when lit, no letters showing, so looks like I’ll have to buy a new one.

Re: Low fuel lamp
I used a color printer with some transparent film and experimented with various fonts and tints and made up a reasonable facsimile of the face.
Re: Low fuel lamp
What a brilliant idea! I’m going to give that a try. Can you remember what colours/fonts you used? Did you apply the film to the existing green lens?

Re: Low fuel lamp
I forgot to add, I’ve never seen a genuine one lit, does anyone know where I can find a picture of one lit, so I know what to aim for. Most grateful for the support.

Re: Low fuel lamp
I cannot remember the font or shade of green it has been a long time since I did this. The font was nothing fancy and I think I just chose a medium green of some sort and it all worked out fine. I might add that eventually I picked up a used lamp at a flea market that I installed and really, they were very similar. I no longer have the car so cannot show you what it looked like when lit.
Re: Low fuel lamp
Mine isn't lit very often but from what I remember Moss' rendition is pretty accurate.
