TA/TB Scuttle Holes

Post by ferricsteed » Thu Sep 07, 2023 6:55 am

Good day. This topic may be of interest to TA and TB'ers on minutae. Proper clips and holes in the scuttle. The topic has been touched on, but I am seeking a little more knowledge. Attached is a picture of a drawing that was posted by a Mr Ian Linton back in 2016. Mr. Malcolm Green's book also drew the scuttle with holes but was limited to holes visible from the engine compartment. The holes hidden underneath the tool box are not shown. I am asking this group for the hole locations (confirming Ian's drawing) also what p-clips were attached, specifically, I am interested in knowing the number of small p-clips, location, which of the three bowden cables went through which clip. Ian's drawing shows two clips on one screw, labeling just one as "slow running cable". What cable went through the other clip?
My TB scuttle has the single hole with the two larger clips for the tach and speedo. Mine also has the single screw with double clips as indicated by Ian. Mine also had a single clip mounted more centrally. Unfortunately, I did not pay attention to which bowden cable went through which clip, hence my questions above.
Someone on possibly a different website had posted a picture inside of their scuttle, but I have not been able to relocate it. Or my memory is getting worse....which it is!

I too went through the exercise of identifying correct holes and extraneous holes.
all tool box holes.jpg
The ones marked with a red X I decided were extraneous and I filled them with welded plugs.
The ones marked ? I left as is.
The one marked in red "clip for jack handle" I later decided was also extraneous so I filled it.

I made use of these photos but failed to make a note of the source person.

Tim,

The Slow Run cable goes through the small P-clip on the right and the Mixture (choke) cable goes through the one on the left. (As seen looking forward from under the dash.) And they go through the holes in the bulkhead above the steering column in that same order. At least that’s the way it is on TA2190.

I can’t remember who did that actual drawing but do note there’s reference to TB0437 (TB Tickford). If correct then the TB may have had a longer clip for holding the Jack than the TA (or perhaps only unique to the Tickfords). I have not checked my larger clips for lengths. In fact I’ve removed one or more to allow more convenient storage space because I am not using all the original tools in there under the rubber tool trays.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Bill

Rob and Bill, thank you for the replies. I'll add a note to the small double p-clip that the left clip is for the choke/mixture cable.
My TB scuttle had a single p-clip close to the center for the starter cable. Very clean looking. Unfortunately, I did not take a picture. I'll do so now after the restoration and post here.
