today i made a template for the door opening
i had to change the shape a bit because i want to insert a window for the back, this should be pushed all the way to the back , so i took the orange tape to make the change, now it will fit.
when i made the surfboard, i had 2 wooden frames in the middle, here i will also use it to get more stability,
at the back around the window and around the door opening I will try a sandwich construction
this should make it much more stable without weighing much more

Hello Franz,
So happy to see someone follow through with this type of hard top.
Several years ago I thought I might try a project such as you are doing but I only got a far as a profile drawing and some 3/4 sketches over a photo. I’m not sure if this animated gif will work (some sites convert them to jpg showing only the first image) but it is built on the dimensions of the TA and switches back and forth between the two.
Your template is looking good.

The angle of the tip is not OK
The reason was that the front wheels were 6 cm higher than the rear wheels.
Now the templates are absolutely 4 cm lower than before
Now the roof line follows the overall line of hood and body
So step by step Forward
Should i Take Polyester or epoxy
I think epoxy
Have some PU plates in my cellar to make a sandwich from it at the side and around the window in the back

Today
I went to a store and bought some plywood for the next steps
then I made some changes to the part I made yesterday,
now it is approx. + 1 cm from the front of the A pillar to the end of the b Pillar
so it almost follows the shape of the body,
I tried to get into the car and tested whether I could sit in it
i can
I will make a sandwich on the B-pillar, 6mm plywood inside xps 20 mm and 3mm plywood outside
and make a mounting point there
so i will have a good strenght of the hardtop in this position
I will use the seat adjustment to hold the hardtop in the middle
in the front i will use the screw that you have to loosen to fold the windshield forward
this can also be opened and closed very quickly and you will hardly be able to see it
understood ???
also i made a part to bend the wood between A and b pillar

i had cut out the wooden parts for the b pillar
there i will make a sandwich as you can see in the pictures
also i cut parts for the cornerr in the back
will glue them together with pu
then i can grind them
here only to see how it could bee
got 10m2 carbon in the bay in an auction
i think someone is angry now ;-)

so less time :-)
but
i glued some parts together with pu
will make some pictures tomorrow ( no - later ;-)
under the shower this evening i had good ideas for the next steps
you will see it
difficult to grind the xps when it is on the car so i will grind it before i will glue the next parts together.
had a good dinner and a fine beer ;-)
and when I got home, I went into my garage
there the parts I had glued together were perfectly put together
I sanded them for a few minutes and put everything together, not glued yet, but the way it should be in the future
so the path I have taken is the right one so far
i hope it will go on like this
so less time :-)

first i made the holes for the fixing points at the b pillar
as you see in the pictures the steel sits perfect in the wood
will glue them with epoxy
in the back i checked if the car stands right

I glued the corners to the wood
I checked the positions with a plumb line as you can see
about 1.5 cm inwards on both sides
this is now one of the most important steps
have to check everything if it is hard, hope everything is ok
if not I have to cut away one side

the corners were not really hardened
but hard enough that I could do the next step
as you can see I cut a part for the back
first I marked the position for the glass
then cut it out and glued it in with Pu
i am really happy with the result of the moment
the window i will put in as i have done it with my ta
i think it will work without problems

i have a good run ??!!
easy to sand because it's really stable the way i did it
so 2 more xps layeres and sanded them after i glued them down
now i need to make some templates so i can check both sides
should be the same

in the morning i prepared the b pillar on both sides
I took my drill and cut 6 mm deep into the xps
then i glued them in with pu
then i put some wood glue on the wood and pu on the edges of the side parts and put that in place
then i put them in
seom hours later i grinded both side

now i have to wait until all the pu is hard
until this step it was much easyer and faster then i thought before
really happy and a little bit proud
one big difference between a profi and me
my garage is chaos pur now
only 3,5 x 7 m and a lot of stuff in it
not much room to work

You are making good progress with the hard top. I could have missed something but how is it fixed to the body? You need a really strong attachment to stop it blowing off at speed!

look to the b pillar, there i will have a strong fixing point with a sandwich from: cevlar wood xps wood cevlar
there i will make one ficing point to the back seat fixing, i hae written it here ..
perhaps in the front at the one extra point too

Nice progress, but keep in mind that at speed there will be wind buffeting if the finished roofline is flat (as it appears in latest pic).

but it will be curved when i put on the carbon

Amazing progress Franz and looking very practical, bur perhaps consider that it should be somewhat flexible when complete as our cars twist so much and you don't want to risk damaging the windshield, cowl, or the hardtop. Don't know how cars fitted with a steel roof fared but most models usually had unitary steel cowl windshield surround pressings.
