Tonight I wanted to clean up my garage for the next steps.
I also need to prep the car for the epoxy step
the car should not be damaged
so I have to remove the hardtop
to then carefully cover everything with foil
was a bit nervous
but
it was so easy
I got a scale to measure the weight
exactly 4 kg
and see what I could do with it
i will make the first 2. layers on the outside
with the hardtop on the car,
for the 3. layer i will take the hardtop off the car
if I have a driver's license in winter, I could take the car for a drive arond the corner with the hardtop on it
i hope i will get the epoxy on tuesday or wendsday

Waiting for the epoxy, some small steps forward
Here are a few more steps
The weight is now 4kg
easily removable
The first step was to cut the carbon fiber to size
I used 5mm wide adhesive tape for this
then cut in the middle so that the carbon stays as it is and does not fray
as the carbon is 150 cm wide, I first cut off 125 cm, which is the width I need
so I can see how it works on the roof
as you can see the roof is a bit curved, good for stability
first I will paint it with epoxy, when it gets sticky you can fix the first carbon layer well, only then soak it with epoxy, that's how I saw it in videos
i hope you have fun to see the pictures,

outside its done
i started in the morning with heating up my garage to 15 degrees
first step one layer with carbon from the front to the edge in the back
both sides the carbon goes around to the plywood
i will cut it away when it is hard and i have to do the inside
before i layed the carbon 200 g/m2 on the roof i painted 30 cm in the front
then i layed the carbon in the bakc of the roof and took it to the edge in the front
step by step i controlled both sides then i painted the back of the roof with epoxy and put it on it
the garage had 17 degrees now
after 2 hours i put on the second layer as i have done the first
then i made both sides, first some epoxy to the xps the the carbon on it after this i fixed it with a special rolling tool
in the back the window was a little bit tricky
as you see i hold it in position with a part xps
now i have to wait until it is hard, i think it will take 2 days
all the time i will heat the garage
had a good run i think...
when it is hard outside i will grind inside in the back where the corner is
we will see how it works
the xps is only 3 kg so i will make a sandwich from it
i can sit in the car this i have tested some dasy ago

at the moment I'm thinking about using something like this here
Thixotropic powder with epoxy
seen a video there he used Epoxy Thiotropic and Microballons
i have the Thio but not the microballons
have to order them or i use ready epoxy filler
and then fill the roof surface with it
so I could smooth out the fibers,
I have to grind later

but I don't want to damage the fibers in the process
what do you think about ?
at the moment I have an infrared panel near the car to cure the resin faster
and it works great ;-) as i saw in the moment

Hi Franz, Have you a yacht or power boat builder you could speak to. They may be able to advise you on the "gelcoat" they use to cover their glass fibre boats with.

this morning I did the inside of the hardtop, one coat will be enough
more time today to take some pictures ;-)
I always made 200 gr and 120 gr together
mixed carefully
you can also see all my tools I worked with
the roller i used was not perfect
"varnish roller fine foam 10 cm"
the roller was damaged at the end after 10 minutes
and small pieces were on the carbon
next time I do something like this I will use a different roller
like this one
"Paint roller velour paint roller"
First, I filled the holes under the right-hand side where you can see the collets
after I applied the epoxy I rolled with the special roller several times over the inside
more time today to take some pictures ;-)
I always made 200 gr and 120 gr together
mixed carefully
you can also see all my tools I worked with

first i rolled some epoxy on the xps, then i folded back the carbon
Step by step until completion
in the evening i will paint last epoxy on the inside
also i made a stainless steel 3D part for the laser cutter with freecad
happy that i have learned it over the last years
so it is easy to get such a part
it will be the surroung for the window in the back

3 days work and a lot of fun seeing my dream come true
now i know how to make the back window
for the sidewindows i have an idea how to make it
some welding with steel
will make it like my spartan sidewindows with a sliding screen
only one little part i have to think about
this was the 14. day i worked on the hardtop
happy with the result for the moment

Last night i had a dream how can i make the Side-Windows
first i wanted to slide back the rear sidewwindows in the back of the hardtop
but there i have the b pillar fixing points
so ist will not work like this
now i have a different solution
for the front sidewindows i will take aluminium U Profil
i will put in this here:

now the Glas can slide
for the backwindows i will make a cut so the windows can slide through backwards
I will take a knob to push the window back
This knob ist also the Stop Point

difficult to get parts for the next steps
a lot of time to think about how i can design the side windows
the fixing of the hardtop at the b pillar
and so on
so you have to read the books you get on christmas
or you can think how you can make your own hardtop
The instructions are now available

I came back from work today and the dishwasher was damaged.
my wife was a little bit angry
a damaged dishwasher some days before christmas
I hate this kind of work.
but it's so expensive to call a specialist
so I took a screwdriver and removed some parts to have a look under the dishwasher
there's some water dripping down
at first I couldn't see the problem as I had little room to see anything.
then I found this pipe in the picture, the dishwasher is only 5 years old ...
same problem with the rubbers we can buy for our cars ;-)
ordered a new one , will come on Friday
I put the hardtop back on the car
it's easy to do yourself
I took off my side windows and put them on the car
you can see the difference, a bit more space for my head
the red line shows the line for my sliding windows,
I will try the back line to make the back window a little smaller
I have some aluminum U-profiles 10-20-10 and a plastic profile for the windows
months ago I had bought a special aluminum solder at a trade show, maybe it will work with it
so again no experience but a plan how it could work

it works easy but would it be strong enough
in my hands it is ok
but now i have a template with the right angles

drove around to find someone who can weld aluminum
all stores are closed
so i will solder it and in the corners i will make a gusset plate inside and outside under the gusset plate i will make some epoxy
the red point are 3mm screws
that will probably be strong enough
the dishwasher runs again ;-= horrible work
maybe I'll do the brown leatherette on the outside of the roof, like on the classic pre-war cars
or better black, or only paint it ?????

made it a little bit smaller not 28 cm high now 26 cm high
now it wood not damage the car in the front
also i can solder it now perfectly
but
i have made some gusset outside,
should i make some gussets inside too??
also i have an idea how so fix all togehter so i can put it to the door
have too buy some aluminium first for the next steps
