Under dash panel

Post by Mark Strang » Tue Mar 12, 2024 4:59 am

Does anyone know what the board is made of for the shield under the dash? I have the covering but I don't know if it is two pieces or one and what it is made of. Seems to me it needs to be somewhat flexible to follow the contour of the dash.
Thanks,

Mark

Thanks Carl. What is the material made of? I would guess it has to be somewhat flexible.

On my car there was a tiny piece of 1/8" plywood clinging to a clip at the forward end of the firewall (scuttle) which I presume was what was left of the under dash cover panel, the rest having been ripped off by a previous owner in a moment of frustration.

I believe they were originally some kind of fiber board.

Sherrell suggests they were rexine covered plywood. This from the library suggests using fibreboard.
I made mine from fibreboard but it did need some battening attached to it to stop it sagging and distorting - I think ply would be a better answer.

About a third of the way down this page read the paragraph 'Black grain board'.

Specification 259 lists it as being Plyboard - Rexine covered to pattern.
TC2190 / XPAG1098 (originally 2745).
