TC Front Spring Mystery
TC Front Spring Mystery
I'm in the process of rebuilding the front axle for TC 6984 and was surprised to find that the arc on the two springs is quite different- see photos. The car seemed to have the correct stance when I brought it home - we have not driven her other than on and off the transport trailer. I did find missing leaves in the rear spring though.
One sources suggests that the arc of the front spring off the car should be 1.85 inches. Interestingly for these two, one is 2" under the arc and the other is 3". Which is correct?
From the overall appearance of the spring, the higher arc one seems nicer, has taper leaves and the 4 clips of the original. The lesser arced one has only 2 clips and has square cut leaves.

One may be older than the other, or the steel has lost its temper.

The Blower manual has spring data for all models including the TC.

Thanks All: I measured the spring leaves against the Blower data and they are both correct. It's off to the spring shop for some retempering .

Re: TC Front Spring Mystery
The TC springs are fairly easy to re-arch if someone wants to get the right and left side ride heights to match in front. Can be done (one leaf at a time) using a strongly mounted vise and some muscle, as opposed to the hydraulic press method required for bigger springs. If the springs are stamped "BERRY" then they are likely original.
