The next step was to seal the damaged areas with solder.
Will that work?
I used acetone to remove the old paint
smoothed with sandpaper
the material is identical to tin cans
so you should be able to seal it with solder like you use for copper pipes
I looked in my boxes and found a special flux
it already contains small amounts of tin
Then I carefully heated the material with a small burner and gradually worked on the spots
I then did the rest with solder, as it is used in the electronics industry
then I used some sandpaper to smooth everything out
the result is amazing
I don't think you will see any of the damage after painting
I filled it with hot water
everything is tight
now I'm really happy with the weekend

Franz-
I had a similar project almost 10 years ago. I needed to replace the actual cylinder. A person on Ebay had some of the cylinders available. To get the old cylinder out, and new cylinder in the can, I ended up replacing all of the solder--like you did.

wonderful evening 27 degrees blue sky
so I set off in the car
5 km from the house I filled up with petrol
drove off again to do my evening lap
200 metres and suddenly no more power
I pulled the car over to the side of the road
opened the bonnet to see what was wrong
all the cables were fine
???
idea
I took my old inspection lamp and plugged it into the socket on the dashboard
no light
no power!
ok
a 1965 Porsche stopped on the other side
we pushed the MG to the other side, it was much safer to work there
I went round the back to the battery, everything seemed fine, a light
at the front of the firewall I have a safety switch that lights up on both sides
opened my printed fuse box at the location of the regulator
there is a modern fuse there, one side lights up, the other doesn't
so I took it out and then connected the wires together
now I had ignition with power again and the TA started immediately
i love this old cars
i have heard that this fuses are not the best ones
this was the first time so i hope all wires are ok
most problems you can solve by yourself at the side of the street

perfect weather again today
first I changed the spring for the accelerator pedal
a softer spring the engine was just way too sensitive when I drove over a bad road
took the car for a 40-minute drive through the city
the car runs perfectly and the throttle response is now as it should be
the jerking is now gone
I cut open the old fuse with my angle grinder, it was actually defective
let's see what happens now, after the brisk drive the new fuse was cool and intact
what a fun to drive the car at a summer evening and 28 degrees

We had a fantastic afternoon with our English cars
2 years ago I was at a classic car meeting in Lüdinghausen
there smoeone invited me to visit
The little tea garden
Today we wanted to drive to Lüdinghause to have an ice cream
on the way to Lüdinghause I remembered the English tea garden
searched the internet and found it, it was on our way
and
it was open,
Normally you have to make a reservation
but with our English cars we also got a table
it was the key to the garden ;-)
see the pictures,
it was fantastic
the other guests thought our cars were beautiful, in keeping with the location
