If you look at my blog, 2nd November, there is a picture of the front core plug (freeze plug) removed and a new hole drilled.

Re: TC overheating a repeating topic, sorry!
Hi everyone, I trust the Mew Year went well for one and all! [apologies for late response but I last posted sometime in December!]
I thought everyone was so helpful an update was the least I could do.
Anyway I finally had to change the distributor cap as that was causing spark problems, and the change cured it.
Cleaned out the awkward waterway to the rear of the block with the engine in situ, that seemed fine.
Flushed the rad, several times, with various branded products, all of which were a waste of money, and time
Took the rad out and power flushed it in both directions with my trusty Karcher, a minor improvement, but short lived.
Eventually took the rad to a specialist had it re cored, in the original copper, cost a lot I thought but that seems to have cured the problem. Now runs 40-70 at this time of the year in light/ medium traffic. On the open road it struggles to get above about 40
So I am very pleased with the outcome, unfortunately my bank balance seems somewhat depleted!
Finally can use it as a normal car so had it booked as a display car at the recent Brooklands MG ERA day celebrating 80 years since t type production, came 3rd in the Concurs de elegance so all in all a good day.
The supercharger had been not quite right but a worthwhile couple hours on a rolling road saw power go from about 74 [49 before I fitted the sc] to 81hp with a top speed of 79 mph [ glad it was tied down, very scary and noisy, thank god I didn't have to steer it at those speeds]so that is now sorted
Its taken me about 6 months on and off to get these issues resolved but my advice to anyone wanting to throw their car in the nearest ditch is to persevere and when that doesn't work, persevere some more!
Once again many thanks for the advise and encouragement without which I would still be struggling
They are definitely the most complicated simple car I have ever had the pleasure of owning

Tone, is that correct... "with a top speed of 79 mph".
I thought a standard car had a top speed of 78 MPH.

Re: TC overheating a repeating topic, sorry!
car new was booked as 75mph max, so I was quite pleased with outcome as it is still an old engine.
The mid range is a massive improvement, the main reason for fitting the supercharger, and also its a lot less stressful, for me and the car, on inclines of various degrees, with a lot less gear changing required.
To be honest I wasn't bothered about more top speed as thats never likely to be used, mid range performance is

That's correct...a supercharger isn't useful in providing more speed, it's usefulness is in increased torque when needed, i.e., mid range.
