Brake adjustment question
Brake adjustment question
I removed all my brake drums and the drum surfaces look good and the shoe lining also looks good on all of them. Replaced the drums and checked the shoe adjustment on the front wheels and then the back wheels. The front adjusters worked as they should but on the back, only one of the adjusters can I get to lock up the wheel. The other adjuster turns a full 360 without the shoe contacting the drum. I removed the drum and watched as I turned that adjuster and the shoe does move. Again, the lining looks good. About 1/4 inch thick on all the shoes. I don't know what new ones look like though. Is there something else I should check?

Re: Brake adjustment question
The cam on the adjuster should contact the shoe. If not, the shoe is hanging up on something.

Re: Brake adjustment question
Take a look also at the pegs on the brake shoe that contact the adjuster. Sometimes these are worn or may not be tight in the shoe or bent slightly. Thus being too far away from the adjuster.

Re: Brake adjustment question
I had a peg resting on the cam. Moved it away, turned the cam so it came off the peg and it worked.
