Site Repair Underway

Post by Steve Simmons » Sat Jan 19, 2013 10:14 am

January 19, 2013: The site was hit by an unknown attacker early this morning and everything went crazy, but repair is underway and should be completed shortly. Sorry for the inconvenience!

UPDATE 10:55 AM PST: All systems should be back to normal, whatever normal is. If you find anything not working (other than the forum still looking a bit odd) please let me know.

I tried to log on just now and my data login was rejected. I had to reregister just to post this. Am I doing something wrong here? Bob

Everything looks good Bob. If you were trying to use your Yahoo name and password then that was the problem. This discussion forum is totally separate from the Yahoo stuff.

Hello Steve,

I'm puzzled how the auto-notification feature is supposed to work. I have ticked twice now in the last few weeks to be notified of ANY responses, but I only get a single notification every few days. Then I look at the various threads and find that quite a few responses have come in over the intervening period without my being notified.

Have I misunderstood the feature and instead am I only being notified of new topics. However this is certainly not always the case.

Any advice would be welcome, as I regret I don't want to have to trawl through all the subjects to find out what I missed, probably days ago.

Not a whinge, just feedback!
Best regards,
Ian

There are two ways to subscribe, by topic or by forum. If you subscribe to a topic, you will be notified when there are new replies made to that topic only, plus whatever other topics you subscribe to. Once you have visited, you will be notified again when there are more new messages.

If you subscribe to a forum, you will be notified of new discussion topics and new replies to any (new or existing) topic within that forum. There are currently five forums (TABC Chat, Noggin and Natter, Swap Meet, etc) so you can choose which (or all) you want to subscribe to.

When you are subscribed to a forum, you will be notified once that there are new replies and/or posts. You will be given a link to visit that forum to see them. So that you don't get dozens of email about replies in one forum, just one email is sent until you visit that forum. Then another will be sent next time there are new messages.

TECH TIP: When you view a forum, you will notice that any topic with new replies will have a little orange folder before the topic name. Clicking on this icon will take you directly to the newest message, so you don't have to search for it manually.

Likewise, if you look at the column on the right, you will see a little folder icon next to the name of the last person to post a message. Clicking this will take you directly to that post.
