Max bore for XPAG Block
Max bore for XPAG Block
Planning to build up a 1466cc XPAG for my TC4372. Have spare "bannana" bock, and have read this will take TF 1500 sleeves and pistons. However before proceeding I would value any comments as I do not want to ruin a good block. I also will use TF valves, hard seats, Edney cam and Morris 10 head, front and rear seal conversions, and 1 1/2" H4 SU carbs.
Re: Max bore for XPAG Block
Hello,
can anyone give me feedback on their experiences in sleeving out an XPAG block to MG TF 1500 size? I have the parts, I'm ready to go, but I dn't want to make any mistakes!

I've heard that some blocks accept it better than others. It may be worth doing a thickness test on each cylinder wall to make sure you don't punch through. Also be sure to use stepped sleeves.

IN GENERAL, it is usually OK to open an XPAG up to +.100, without problems. I have an engine that has been done to +.120", without sleeves (it must be VERY thin...).
But even if you do break through into a water jacket, it's not the worst thing in the world. You may get slightly uneven cooling, but there should be no significant problem. Make sure you get a good machinist to install the sleeves; I like the kind with a lip, that can't move.
