Handbrake cable to back plate clamp-inner/outer

Post by bloodysalmon » Fri Aug 09, 2019 10:40 am

Surely I'm not the only one who has become confused and frustrated while trying to fix the pair of plates, inner and outer brake cable clamps! :?
Even the description is confusing, inner and outer ... inner to the drum or inner towards the diff, outer of the back plate or outer towards the wheel? :?
Also, does the felt ring and medal collar next to it go inside or outside ... wherever that may be!
A photo of how you know it should be or how you have got it to work would be brilliant.

Have you got Mike Sherrill's Books, TC's Forever and TC's Forevermore? Very good detail in the first book on what you're looking for.

I have looked a this description on page 109 in the bible, but it is as confusing to me now as it was when I first looked at it 20+ years ago! If you look carefully, the blackened holes for the plates are in the wrong place and can never marry up as shown. However, I'm going out in the garage now to have another play to get them fitted ...

Maybe I just got lucky, Mine went together Ok, I remember I had to fiddle with them a bit but once they fell in place, it all made sense. Good luck, Patience is a virtue but sometimes you just need a bigger hammer! :P

re-reviewing the bible, with a little patience along with Tim's photo, I have now managed to fit them now. I may be wrong but I'm not sure yours is quite right either Tim! Should be the opposite holes on each clamp as per the bible ... but if it works, leave it.

Thank you for the pictures. I also started a similar discussion on the T-Types Facebook site.
Can I ask you: Are bothe clamps on the same side of the backing plate?
