TD oil pump to TC conversation
Has anyone attempted or knows if and how a TD oil pump can be converted to be used on a TC engine?
That's to say it would then take the external top mounted oil pipe connection to the separate oil filter.

I just asked a similar question recently. The responses are here:

Re: TD oil pump to TC conversation
thanks for the that Steve, however I'm not sure that has answered my question in how to modify the TD/TF pump so it does the same as a TC did originally? Clearly to do this a hole would have to be drilled I think on top of the pump to receive the external pipe to filter.

Re: TD oil pump to TC conversation
My apologies, I misunderstood. I thought you wanted to use the later horizontal pump with integral filter. I've never done what you're talking about.

no probs Steve, so I suppose the question is ... is it feasible to modify the TD oil pump body then ... anyone know?

So the question is whether anyone has ever modified a late TD/TF horizontal-filter oil pump to use a vertical TC/early TD oil filter? If anyone will know, it will be Butch Taras.

Re: TD oil pump to TC conversation
afraid not Tom ... I'll try once again to clarify ... I am sure it is a legitimate modification.
I have 3 TC's, 2 with engines. One engine is an early TC Xpag engine the other is a Xpag factory replacement engine which looks to be a TD. It was all disassembled so parts are mixed up but the oil pump perhaps was a TD even though fitted to a TC. I now wish to assemble the engine to the TC specification, so the oil pump needs to show an opening on top to receive the S-shaped copper/brass pipe to the filter top.
So I suspect, a specific drilled hole will then be needed ... and perhaps some sort of blockage made to ensure oil redirection if needed ... I just don't know!

Re: TD oil pump to TC conversation
... here's a few photos of the oil pump in question. I believe this is a TD one and the one that can/could be drilled on top to allow oval pipe TC fitting ... what do you reckon?

I reckon you ought to ask Butch Taras.

Re: TD oil pump to TC conversation
Hello Chris. As you can see from the attached photo the pump on the left is for a TC. It has a cast in boss that is drilled and tapped to hold the output pipe going to the oil filter. There isn't enough material on a TD pump (the middle pump in the picture) to machine a flat surface and have enough threads for the bolts that hold the output pipe against the pressure.

Re: TD oil pump to TC conversation
Ok ta Butch. I hadnt appreciate there was a cast/space issue on a TD pump. I can seen from your photos that the 2nd TD pump appears to have a hole in the cap ... or does this show the cap upside down (the pressure relief end)?
And finally to close my maddening desire to make the most of the parts I have ... could you provide a photo of how the TD (2nd one) actually fits to the xpag block, where the pipes connect etc ... the complete picture.
I may well then consider switching my filter system from my 'oily-rag' TC to my to-be concours TC.

Re: TD oil pump to TC conversation
Hello Chris. The cover of the pump is in the proper position that is where the output pipe connects on a TD. If you are building a concours car I would recommend you find another TC pump body and cover. You will loose points for the wrong pump. The oil filter adapter is the ones I make.
