Headlamp fixing woe
Headlamp fixing woe
I hope the combined knowledge of the group can help me..
I've just got the TC rewiring finished [many thanks to several on this list and some external help]
So nice to know she will not burst into flames in an old loom melt down..
My problem is the r/h front headlamp fixing.
All that was holding it on was rust and road dirt.
Like a fool I cleaned it and now the nut does not hold.
The only off the shelf solution seems to be the replacement of the whole headlamp which is mad and rather expensive.
Does anyone know of a way to replace this when I don't have any machining capability?
Many thanks &
Best regards

Re: Headlamp fixing woe
There are specialists in vintage lighting in the UK. I'm sure that they have suggestions, parts, etc. to rectify this situation. Don't have a name in my head right now, but a search on the web ought to show the way.

Re: Headlamp fixing woe
Just off the top of my head, a piece of brass shim between bolt and bucket?

Re: Headlamp fixing woe
What do you think the problem is? Is the the fixing bolt or the nut? I think the nut is brass so it is possibly very worn. A new nut might fix it. I just had a look at one of mine to confirm that the thread size is 5/8 inch 26 tpi.
Doug Pelton at "From the Frame Up" lists these nuts for $4.50
I would try that first.

If the threaded tube is stripped this can be replaced as well. In the UK, Holden has parts for these.

Good thing you are waiting for the sunshine, as it is well known that "Gentlemen do not motor after dark."
