Hot motor

I recently overalled the Lucas wiper motor on my 1946 TC. I cleaned out the old grease which was almost solid and washed the gears with turpentine before putting it all back together with fresh grease making sure everthing was moving freely. It now works fine but gets very hot after running on the bench with no load after about 15 mins. I also have a new old stock Lucas B90 factory reconditioned motor which I have also tested and it too gets very hot after running on the bench for about 20mins. My question is do I have 2 faulty motors or is this normal?

I think that it is not abnormal that engines warm after 15 or 20 mn if they are on a tench.
When the wiper motor is in position on the car, the frame of the windscreen serves as radiator to dissipate the heat.
It is necessary to try to run your wiper motors with a small ventilator on the bench and to see if they are hot.
During a trip at the end of September, we had a very rainy day. I thus used the wipers. After 30 mn of functioning, the engine was hot but we could leave the hand on the wiper motor, thus approximately 35 ° C, I think.

If the grease inside is getting old and dry then the motor will have to work much harder. I'd open it up and check the condition of the various lubricating points, then clean and apply new grease if necessary.
