8 inch lights

Post by ian theobald » Wed Jul 09, 2014 2:33 am

In my last post I mentioned that I would like to refit 8 inch lights to my TC.
It is a late 49 model and I believe had cats eye pattern fitted. Currently my car has 7 inch lucas pre focussed glass and reflector combined.
I have found a site that sells such lights pre focused with globe at very resonable price {classic lighting UK ] but the outer chrome rim is meant fo early Lucas flat glass but can be used but not a perfect fit.
Has any one used these as think site was based on motor cycle replacement lighting but If the same could use instead.Just thinking outside the square as many British motor cycles used Lucas and plenty of parts now available, even if reproduced in India or Asia

I also change over to the original lenses and was thrilled with the appearance. I bought the rims and latches and such from Holden Spares. They seamed to work fine with the cat eye lenses. Keep in mind there is a gasket mounted in there around the reflector also. I had one original lens and found another on ebay, they do come up from time to time. Just make sure they are the correct diameter.

Hi Ian, Impressed that you find time to work on all your hobbies. I'm retired and struggle to find the time to work on my TC. It will be three years in October since I started the project, but the end is in sight. :)
A good source for spares and restoration of headlamps is Keith Ardley. His email address is kieth@ardley8142.fsnet.co.uk. ('kieth' is correct) He has a friend, Anthony Pearson (acpearson@ chariot.net.au) who comes over from Australia every year to a restoration show selling LED and halogen bulbs. Perhaps could help with bringing parts over?
Cheers Ian
