drag link question

Post by Ray White » Sat Oct 02, 2021 9:29 am

Could someone confirm if the TC drag Link should sit on top of the drop arm or hang down under it ?

The ( VW conversion ) drop arm goes on the steering box shaft either way but with the drag link end positioned the same way up as the track rod ends it slopes down at a steep angle. Is this right? It may be safer than hanging under the arm but looks a bit strange.

With the drop arm on the other way round (bolt head facing out) and the drag link end hanging down, the angle is much reduced. I need to find out which way to set up the steering rods but I don't seem able to find any photos to confirm the correct set up.

On a stock TC setup, the link at the pitman arm is underneath. The other three are on top of the steering arms. If the VW arm can go either way then I would mount it to achieve the flattest angle possible.

Thank you very much Steve. I had it right first time but the bolt head fouled the stainless extractor manifold so I had the pipes moved to make it fit...then today... I realised that with the arm the other way up I would not have had that problem.

Now I know for sure that I did the right thing after all.

You have made my day!!!
