Backboard rubber strips

Can anyone confirm that the backboard rubber strips (behind the fuel tank) Extend all the way down to the base of the tub, until they hit the frame?

This is the only way I see that they will fit and not overlap some of the sheet metal at the top of the backboard...Altho may they are supposed to?

If the fit all the way down to the frame, this would push the rubber pads that the tank feet rest on back by the thickness of the rubber strip. So the would either rest on top of the tank pads, or behind them at the base of the tub..I think.

Any help welcomed.

As I recall, the strips were attached with a minimum of tacks. One towards the top of each vertical strip, and one or two towards the center of the horizontal. 3 or 4 tacks in all. Or something like that.

It may not be as originally manufactured but I have chosen to use a few more screws when attaching the 1/2" thick rubber strips.

Ray, I placed mine like yours but extended the sides up to the bottom of the center sheet metal, and the center rubber in between up against the base of that center sheet metal, as my sheet metal didnt show any nail holes indicating it was not mounted that high.

Anyway, here are the results; Tank mounted and fenders mounted (altho with #6 mounting screws just to confirm everything). All holes lined up, and the fenders fit well, especially as I used 1/4" Diameter welting for the dry build, and it fits well into the relatively small fit fender fit. Both fender rear tips are equal at 10 1/2" up from ground, and gaps at the tank side are equal.

Too bad the PO shot it disassembled in Almond green...OK for the dry build but it will be black after its all done, it was originally Shires Green.

Originally attached with wood screws - they are listed in Spec 259.
As others replied, rubber goes to the bottom. Here is a photo from TC0273; the vertical rubber strips had never been removed.
