My starter motor had a cover plate over the place where the pull switch normally is. I have a pull switch, so I took the cover plate off and it looks like someone has soldered a washer between the terminals to permanently electrically connect them. The only reason that I can think of as to why anyone would do this is to install a push to start switch elsewhere in the circuit (e.g. on the dashboard).
Has anyone come across this before? Presumably, it's just a case of removing it and installing the correct pull switch.
Regards
Steve

Re: TC Starter Motor Question
Someone probably installed a push button start, or TD/TF/MGA style pull switch. It could have even been used on a Wolsely or other car that used the same starter but with a different rear plate. I'd just remove it, get the plates smooth and flat again and put the switch on. New contact plates are also available.
