Oil Pump oil guage

Post by jddevel » Sun Jul 01, 2018 11:24 am

Is there a recommended way to ascertain whether the oil pump or oil guage on my 54 TF1250 is malfunctioning. The vehicles engine reconditioned by the previous owner not sure regarding pump-they are not available to comment. Thanks in anticipation.

I would try priming the system, then connect an external gauge and start the car. It will be safe to idle for a few seconds without pressure so long as you've pressurized / primed the whole system first. If you get pressure, reconnect the dash gauge and see if it works. If not, then you know your problem is at the pump. Another method would be to look at the rockers and see if oil is coming out, but this will require running longer than the first method, so more risk.
